A 17th century house situated west of the city of Edinburgh and close to Cramond, Craigiehall served as the Headquarters of the British Army in Scotland until 2015. Designed by Sir William Bruce, the house set a pattern for villas in the Edinburgh area during the 18th century. In 1939 the house, like many other country houses, was requisitioned for use by the armed forces, which it was used for until 2018.
